Some of the surgeries that a local orthopedic surgeon might perform include hip replacement or knee replacements due to arthritis, ankylosing spondylosis surgery, gout surgery and thumb arthritis surgery. The meniscus is often injured as athletes attempt a twisting or weight-bearing motion (other common knee injuries from sports include ACL and MCL injury). Meniscus injuries are more common for people over the age of 30, as the meniscus weakens as we age. They can also occur as a result of diseases such as osteoarthritis. Symptoms of a meniscus tear include pain on one side of the knee, localized swelling, loss of range of motion and a sensation of the hip locking or not being able to straighten it completely. If surgery is required, an orthopedic surgeon will perform arthroscopic surgery to prevent further damage to the knee. Meniscus surgery is generally a day procedure, with patients going home on crutches. The recovery time is usually around two weeks.

Please contact ( Dr. Thomas Lu, Local Orthopedic Surgeon Richmond, BC ) to enquire if this health care provider is accepting new patients. A local Orthopedic Surgeon treats carpal tunnel syndrome is compression of the median nerve in the wrist. The median nerve gives feeling to the thumb, the index finger, the long finger, and half of the ring finger. The carpal tunnel is covered by a ligament called a transverse retinacular ligament. When there is swelling in this area, it puts pressure onto the retinaculum, leading to carpal tunnel syndrome.   Always talk with your Local Orthopedic Surgeon about the information you learnt from the videos in regards to treatments and procedures the Local Orthopedic Surgeon  could  perform and if they would be appropriate for you.

Recovery after knee replacement surgery typically involves a period of physical therapy and rehabilitation to help regain strength, flexibility, and mobility in the knee joint. Most people experience significant pain relief and improvement in their ability to perform daily activities after undergoing knee replacement surgery. However, it's important to note that individual outcomes may vary, and the success of the procedure depends on various factors, including the individual's overall health and adherence to post-operative care instructions.

I worked as a doctor for more than 10 years at my early age. I was so disappointed with Dr. Lu's way to deal with the patient. He is so cold without any caring and temperature for sick people. He never let me finish my words of my disease. I am really sorry for saying that.

I had a TKR done by Dr Lu.. He was kind, thorough and answered any questions I had. I highly recommend him as a surgeon. Before you make a decision to criticize him.. Do your research and find out what is and isn't normal after knee surgery etc.. some of the comments I read on here are definitely not accurate. A patient also has responsibility to follow through with their suggested physio/exercises as advised for complete recovery.

I don't know where to begin. I have had three meniscus tears in my knee joints. The first one in my left when I was 22 years old. Surgery was performed in England, I have never had any reoccurrence of tears in this knee. My right knee meniscus tore many years later and was repaired. 4 small holes, quick recovery and very minimal swelling. Unfortunately it tore once again and this time i had surgery with Thomas Lu. My thoughts are exactly in unison with the other comments on here regarding the dismissive manner and mannerism of this surgeon. When i removed my wraps after surgery, my knee was three times larger than normal and has become disfigured. There was actually some bits floating on top of my kneecap, and when i pointed this out to him he dismissed this as normal. It clearly is not normal. To be fair, i have given lots of time before writing this review as i want to be extremely fair before passing jus=dgement. I can honestly say that i now have worse pain in my knee, sharp pains under the knee cap and numbness on the right hand side of the knee. My leg still doesnt bend all the way back, so sadly, more damage has been done by the lack of care and i will be reporting this to the surgeons office of BC. I will also be contacting my lawyer. My leg was black and blue from the top of my thigh to my ankle. This is not normal for keyhole surgery. Did i also mention, him and his assistant were listening to music on the theatre table, i was in and out of surgery in 15 minutes. Absolutely disgusting. I'll leave it there. Do not use this surgeon.

My experience with Dr. Lu was not good. I found him rude, arrogant & condescending. The actual surgery was ok but there were many issues with the casting & the long term, negative effects on my hand & finger. After waiting to see him, he spent very little time with me & appeared to brush aside any concerns that I presented to him. A few of the ratings posted on January 21/22 say what I haven't. I have have had contact with many surgeons over my lifetime & have never met one that has so little respect for his patients. I will never go back to him & would not recommend him.

I was fitted with a boot and crutches, no radiologist no x-ray no investigation. I was told the cast clinc would see me in 5 days. 2 weeks later. I arrived early. after 2+ hours one x ray Dr. Lu walked past me and said yup. its broken come back in 4 weeks. 4 weeks later he never showed up I was just sent away after 1 more xray and said your done. Now 7 months later I again have factures why becuase original xray showed more damage was present. Never go to this guy if you actually want to have someone help you. He is so uninterested in patients. I have complained to the CPSofBC and the hospital. Still recovering. Patients deserve more

I will never return to see Dr Lu again. We were treated with disdain and disrespect in a consult. He spoke to us in a way that was condescending. I believe he broke several of the College of Physician's Code of Ethics and here they are: 1. Consider first the well-being of the patient. 2. Practise the profession of medicine in a manner that treats the patient with dignity and as a person worthy of respect. Practise the art and science of medicine competently, with integrity and without impairment. 22. Make every reasonable effort to communicate with your patients in such a way that information exchanged is understood. 52. Collaborate with other physicians and health professionals in the care of patients and the functioning and improvement of health services. Treat your colleagues with dignity and as persons worthy of respect. We left, feeling we had overstayed our welcome, as he was so busy to get on to the next patient. Considering filing a complaint. Didn't ask patient how they felt.

He is rude, condescending, enjoys speaking loudly enough so everyone around may hear him put you down and only seems to care about getting paid. My husband had received knee surgery, by this ignorant soul who calls himself a doctor, and was told that he could bare weight on it right away. So, that's what my husband did. After going to the casting clinic and seeing another surgeon after the x-rays, he was shocked that my husband was even told to bare weight and placed him in a wheelchair. Today, we went to the hospital because the metal rod that was used to wire is knee-cap together is pretty much protruding through is his leg, and this lazy good - for - nothing Doctor, tells him to come back when it pops out of his skin! That this is supposed to be normal! We called Health Link and the nurse on the phone made it very clear to go to another hospital because it's obvious that Thomas (doesn't even deserve to be called a doctor) doesn't care about his patients. Also, he is the most judgmental human I have ever met in my life. It's like he gets enjoyment out of others suffering and refuses to provide medication that will ease his pain and actually allow him to heal comfortably. Honestly, please, to anyone who is reading this, I beg you to find another doctor. It is your right as a Canadian Citizen to get a second opinion and get the help you need. Recovery from a surgery is hard enough. No one deserves to go through this amount of stress while dealing with pain and every other struggle that comes with it.

The Butcher of Richmond "Dr." Lu is completely garbage. Any review (good or bad) will obviously be biased inherently, so allow me to provide the evidence supporting my claim that this so-called physician is complete garbage. 6+ years ago my mom was referred to "Dr." Lu (if you haven't noticed by now, the quotations around Dr. is to imply that he is only allegedly, my some miracle, a surgeon). "Dr." Lu at the time was fairly new and perhaps unintentionally too confident in his abilities. He promised my mom many things, including full mobility after he performed the half-knee arthroplasty, little to no pain after recovery was over and that she would only lose sensation nearby the site of incision in an area about the size of a loonie. Dr. Lu also promised to assist in providing help with pain - you know, a bit of morphine post-surgery to help immediate pain after a patient undergoes the trauma of surgery... Fast-forward to post-surgery: The nurses said the "doctor" ordered not to give morphine or any pain killers at all. This was single-handedly the most astonishing thing we had heard. It was, very clearly, a lie that "Dr." Lu had my mom believe that he will help her with pain management. Any attempt to contact "Dr." Lu since we saw him minutes before surgery have been futile. To this day (6+ years), we have been unable to contact him as he simply refuses to establish contact. Further, my mom is in chronic pain at her knee joint, and in her words it is as if the surgery just made it worse and she was better off not having it done at all. Her quality of life has worsened since being promised so much from this "doctor." She is highly suspicious that "Dr." Lu botched the surgery, and does not even have the decency to profess any shortcomings during the procedure. Post-surgery, he has completely shunned all responsibility. Lastly, not only has the surgery left her worse than before, but there is also a significantly larger area near the incision where there is no feeling or sensation (translating to nerve damaged during surgery). This area is about the size of 5 loonies. Even the size of the scar that "Dr." Lu explained pre-surgery, was 3x too small - the incision site is so lengthy even our family physician is puzzled. "Dr." Lu's ineptitude knows no bounds and this forum is too short to list all areas of deficiencies - I have not even mentioned his arrogance and stubbornness, none of which can even be backed up by any level of competent skill. After availing a second opinion, my mom was told that she should not be in chronic pain and the surgery is definitely suspect. Pre-surgery, "Dr." Lu told her to just get the half-knee replacement done now, and come back to him in a few years for a full replacement. At the time perhaps it was our naivety to believe he was just being conservative to operate only a half-knee, but we cannot shake the feeling that he was just scheming to make money. If anything, we feel sorry for his other patients - many of whom will never report him, or not know how to go about it like us. Please seek a real surgeon, and don't let your quality of life be affected by this Butcher of Richmond.

I had a consult with him and found him to be extremely arrogant and rude. Every question I asked he seemed angry to have to answer and did not explain anything. Terrible bedside manner and his advice and knowledge was limited compared with other consults before and after.

This doctor was extremely rude to my mother when she went to see him about her leg. He kept insisting that her English wasn't good enough and that he couldn't understand her. My mother speaks English, not very well but well enough that you can understand her. Before she left, he said that she needed to bring a translator next time. >:( Well there definitely won't be a next visit from us.
